Shinin'/ain't foolin'
Spring always feels like a bit of a lie until it's almost summer. Today the sun is in & out of thick clouds & serious rain, but the temp is barely breaking 50. The bulbs I planted (late!) got a heavy dusting of snow & are now growing greenly. They will hopefully flower for me despite our troubled start. Other than some idle gardening, I never do much to celebrate the equinox. But this year (was it the weather? being here so long? reading so many seasonal cookbooks?) I really wanted to go all out.
I tried to sign up for a foraging walk on a local island, but the class was (understandably) full. I'm going to keep trying to get in to one of these classes, but I might try to go foraging (all super safe stuff, I swear!) myself if one of these days turns out fine. Instead, a girlfriend came over & we had some wine & we worked on a bedroom makeover! It made me realize a) I have a preponderance of stuff b) a large portion of said stuff is green c) my desk HAS to be by a window d) my bed HAS to be as far away from the door as possible & e) sometimes other ppl have the best ideas about what to do with yr stuff!
Spring cleaning should probably precede spring moving junk around, but I kind of missed the boat on that one. I re-discovered some papers I was missing when I finally tackled the pile on my desk. That pile was also making it impossible to do writing work there, but it's cleared now & I'm going to try my hardest to keep that space available. I'm also surprisingly zazzed to weed through some more stuff & see what additional space/s I can open up!

Blog chain
Been in such a girlie mood lately & crushing hard on some blogs that reflect that!
Catching up on creature comforts & for me for you led to butter & brass, which reminded me to check out some recent miss moss posts which lead to A Cup of Jo which in some crazy round-about fantasy shoe-filled searching led to Dead Fluerette (where I spent 3 days reading through all of her posts) which led me to the epitome of quiet & on & on until I ended up on AM on the present tense.
All of this endless girl-worship has led to some serious wardrobe envy/panic but also, in a lovely turn of events, to a great art purchase. More on that in the future! In the meantime, feel free to browse around some super curated sartorial sites!

Design + Charity: Help Japan
{via Signalnoise}
It's probably not surprising what my donation money went towards this month: Japan's earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown disaster.
One of the first people in the design community to respond was W+K; their Help Japan poster is free to those who donate to the Red Cross through the site, with donation amounts beginning at $25 (perfect!).
Today, Tiny Showcase released a print of Jesse LeDoux's called Rising Sun; $25 of the sale price of each print will be donated to the Red Cross.
Of course, if you aren't a fan of extraneous doo-dads, or find the idea of design representing tragedies offensive, you can always just donate directly to Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, Oxfam, or even the Salvation Army, to name a few. They certainly need your support, no matter how limited an amount you might feel you're able to give. And again, if anyone has any other charities they support, please let me know!

The Switch
Instead of you reading me, I'll read to you.
I'm reading with Julian Brolaski this Wed. For The Switch reading series. At the Hall of Records. Does that sound awesome? It should. Have you read Julian's new book? From UDP? I'm reading it now. Let's get it heard together. Wed.
Check it!
