Turning poetry into a pal party

Tonight I'm reading along with Emily Kendall Frey at the third installment of Jamalieh Haley & Donald Dunbar's If Not for Kidnap Poetry reading series. There's always snacks & beer & wine & some variety of vegan cupcake from me, but this time it will be better than before because there will be many of those same things but also paintings & also the cupcakes will be mini cupcakes, so you can eat a whole bunch of them. You will want to eat a whole bunch of them because I am experimenting with a vegan mint chocolate disk at the bottom of some & my best attempt at the Beaverton Bakeries frosting on others (NOT vegan!) There will also be a few of my At night, the dead: chapbooks for sale, ribbon bound by Juliet Cook & with gorgeous artwork by Emma Trithart Brown. This one will also be better because all my best pals are going to be there making an umbrella of happiness over me while I say a bunch of the same dark words over & over again.

I also have poems up today at Mud Luscious, which John Madera (of the Chapbook Review) said were "beautifully rendered and aching, especially the final stanza/paragraph."

The other night my buddy called me & said "You officially live in Portland," referring to the fact that I had been hanging out with a girl who's the friend of my roommate, who he knew because her ex was a friend of his. You know, the connectedness of this place.
